Lindsey District Council has announced the award of a grant for
£35,000 for use in developing a purpose built skate park in
Mablethorpe. The award follows two years of lobbying and
support by local residents to provide a skate facility for young
people in the town. It is also hoped that development of the new
park will attract visitors to the area and provide the potential
for hosting skate events.
Development of the skate park is built on a partnership with the
Mablethorpe Skate Committee, chaired by Margaret Codlin, and also
includes a number of local young people who have a passion and enthusiasm
for extreme sports and skating.
This new site will provide of a purpose built and safe environment
where they can pursue their interests.
Commenting on the award Councillor Doreen Stephenson said ''This
demonstrates how working with our young people can really make a
difference. Not only will we establish a first class facility but
this park will also have a direct impact on other issues around
the community. Positive engagement of young people in community
projects is an important issue for the Council.''
Chair of the Mablethorpe Skate Committee, Margaret Codling, went
on to say 'It was a complete and utter
surprise, it is something that we have been waiting for two and
a half years. It will put Mablethorpe strongly on the map and prove
that East Lindsey District Council will listen to the residents
and are keen to help. It was well worth the wait and the children
of Mablethorpe will be ecstatic.'
